Profile of Mariza

Although originally born in Halifax, NS, Canada, Mariza has lived in many countries. Having dreamt of being a performer for stages, films and dance from a young age, she made her debut as a 13 year old in Canada. She appeared on many TV shows and in films and at 18 years of age she headed for New York. She had success on off Broadway productions and in films and spent a lot of time traveling around the world to places like Los Angeles, England and Italy, which contributed to her value and refined sensitivity as a performer.

In 1997 she found her way to Japan and became involved in working as a model, an actress and a dancer as well as discovering a new dream. She turned to producing and was involved in many TV shows, art exhibitions and stage performances.

Although a successful producer, Mariza had many cherished experiences as a performer and now she is coming back to the stage for this productions set in Nova Scotia, coincidentally the place she was born. This will be her first performance in Japanese and the start of a new stage for Mariza.

Message from Rina

I met Daniel for the first time when he arrived in Japan for the production of "You are here". I was his interpreter during his stay.
My first impression of Daniel was that he had an intriguing sense of humour and acute power of observation which really comes alive in his work. Situations in daily life which seem at first glace like any other situation but are hidden with truths that people try to avoid facing, something that we can all relate to, feelings tucked away deep inside each one of us, a specific message for each one of us that speaks to us through his work.
Although my identity is an interpreter/tango dancer, when I was first approached by Kimura-san for the part of Theresa, I thought that this was an opportunity that I couldn't let pass. I am excited to find out what truths I will find out about myself through this experience.
Theresa is the second daughter, always in control and at peace with herself and her decision to go through life with God. But is there really a person who is in complete control in everything? I want to show the human Theresa with her doubts, worries and would be glad if the audience feels Theresa come alive together with the warmth and sincerity of Daniel's work.

Message from Athena

In this family drama, Louise is often away in her own world but as the story progresses, her character shows itself little by little. When I read the script, I felt how different I (a self-confessed chatterbox) was from Louise, but when the writer of the play, Daniel MacIvor, suggested I focus on the similarities between us, I realised I have more in common with Louise than I thought. I think this play focuses on human personalities and is a wonderful example of how many sides each and everyone of us has. I will do my best to present the 'Louise' in me as we perform the play.

STORY　

カナダ・ノバスコシア州北部のケープ・ブレトンを舞台に、三姉妹の再会を描く

カナダ東部・ノバスコシア州、ケープブレトン。離れ離れに暮らす三姉妹が久しぶりに生家で顔をそろえた。今まさに人生に幕をおろそうとしている母親と最期の日々を過ごすために。彼女たち各々が抱える孤独や痛みは彼女たち自身の人生における選択の結果だった。唐突に訪れた、故郷と家族を見つめなおす時間が、いくつものわだかまりを洗い流していく。そして人生はこれからも続いていくことを確信しながら三人はまたそれぞれの人生を歩き始める。

マシュマロ・ウェーブは4年がかりで「ダニエル・マカイバー・トリロジー」の上演に取り組んでいます。現代を生きる女性の夢を実現に導くさまざまな示唆にあふれた三部作もいよいよ最終章を迎えます。2007年「YOU ARE HERE」、2009年「HOW IT WORKS」に続きトリを飾るのは、1998年にマカイバーの生まれ故郷であるカナダ・ノバスコシア州ケープブレトンを舞台に書かれた「マリオン・ブリッジ」。母の危篤の知らせを受け生家に集まった三人姉妹が、それぞれが抱える孤独や痛みに向き合い、いくつものわだかまりを洗い流し、新たな希望に満ちた人生に力強く踏み出していく。この美しく繊細な物語はカナダの現代演劇が誇る代表作としてカナダ全土で広く愛され、ニューヨーク・オフ・ブロードウェイをはじめ世界各地で上演され、またマカイバー自身の脚色により映画化もされています。この度、マカイバーのワークショップに参加した「3つの大陸からやって来た3人の女優」による東京公演がついに幕を開けます

Of the reunion of Three sisters in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

Marshmallow Wave has been involved with the showing of 'The Daniel MacIvor Trilogy' over the past four years.
This is the final production in these three works, all of which portray the reality of the dreams of modern-day women. The play that follows 'You Are Here' and 'How It Works', performed in
2007 and 2009 respectively, is 'Marion Bridge', written in 1998 and set in MacIvor's hometown of Cape North in Nova Scotia, Canada. Three sisters,
each harbouring their own feelings of pain and loneliness, return to their family home because their mother is dying. There they face their feelings and, through their time together, overcome their problems to look toward a future full of new possibilities. This delicately woven story has been hailed all over Canada as a prime example of modern Canadian theatre and has been
performed off Broadway and around the world. It has also been turned into a movie based on a dramatization by Daniel MacIvor. This time the curtain will be raised in Tokyo to 'three actresses from 3 continents' who participated in MacIvor's workshop.
